Who brought news of emancipation to the people of Texas?

Who brought news of emancipation to the people of Texas?

A Robert E. Lee
B Gordon Granger
C Abraham Lincoln

Fact: When Union Major General Granger led 2,000 federal troops to Galveston Island, Texas, in June 1865, the enactment of the Emancipation Proclamation was already two and a half years old. But Texas was the most remote of the slave states and news traveled slowly. Other more nefarious reasons have also been suggested as having caused the delay. In any case, on June 19, 1865, Granger read General Order No. 3—informing those held as slaves in Texas that they were free.

Correct Answer: Gordon Granger
