The Quiz: For World Lizard Day, we’re taking a look at a juvenile panther chameleon in Madagascar. Its bulging eyes allow it to do what?
A Sleep with one eye open
B See in the dark
C See panoramically
Chameleons’ eyes are mounted on small turrets that move independently. One eye can look forward while the other looks behind, allowing the lizards to constantly scan for prey and predators. Their total field of vision is 342 degrees, with a blind spot of just 18 degrees directly behind their heads. Chameleons’ incredible eyes also have the highest level of magnification of any vertebrate.
The correct answer to this quiz is See panoramically.
