In which country is the Giant’s Causeway, a large structure of basalt rocks?
A Northern Ireland
B South Africa
C Canada
The Giant’s Causeway is a geological marvel. These 40,000 basalt columns on the north coast of Northern Ireland are over 24 metres high. A volcanic eruption some 60 million years ago led to their creation. As the molten basalt cooled, it cracked and fractured, resulting in these amazing shapes. The majority of the columns are hexagonal in shape, but some have four, five, seven or even eight sides.
Correct Answer: Northern Ireland
