The Brocken spectre is named for a peak in the Harz range of what country?
The Brocken, or Blocksberg, is the highest peak in Northern Germany. The mountain has long been associated with witches and devils. These stories are probably reinforced by the common sight of a Brocken spectre on the peak’s misty slopes, when a climber’s shadow cast upon fog creates eerie optical effects. (Of course, the phenomenon can occur anywhere mountainous, like the highlands of Bulgaria pictured here.)
The correct answer is Germany.
