Microsoft Rewards Bing Homepage Quiz (7-4-2022): What signer of the Declaration of Independence later became president of the United States?
A George Washington
B John Adams
C Benjamin Franklin
John Adams, the second president of the United States, is one of two signers of the Declaration of Independence to later become president. Thomas Jefferson is the other. In a remarkable coincidence, both men died on Independence Day of the same year, July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the declaration.
They were among 56 men who ultimately signed the document, an act that risked conviction of treason and therefore death. Jefferson and Adams both claimed they signed it on July 4, although history has debated their assertions. Most delegates signed the document on August 2, 1776, and a handful signed over the course of the next 18 months.
The correct answer to this quiz is John Adams.
